With 61 minutes played, Truenos put themselves up 2 - 0 when the visiting defenders lost the ball to Manuel Hörath, who came up from the left and proceeded to coolly round the keeper and knock the ball home. socceroos needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 65 minutesHumberto Oreste Pompei made way for José Ezpeleta. Although the whole team were struggling to impress, socceroos's Constantin Marcu was singled out as being the problem as he was called off the pitch after 70 minutes. Roman Schneider was given a chance to change things around. Morale on the visitors' bench was greatly improved when their Artur Pfaffenzeller reduced the lead to make it 2 - 1 after 71 minutes, following a pass from the right. With 75 minutes played, the socceroos coach decided a substitution may help turn the game around. Giuliano Bianchi came on, Tommaso Fois had to leave the fray. Joan Barral gave Truenos supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 1 after 79 minutes, following a good exchange of passes on the right that the away team failed to deal with. socceroos's Roman Schneider was shown a yellow card after 80 minutes for slicing down an opponent. The home crowd was silenced as Albert Marín Valle took a successful penalty shot 82 minutes into the game, reducing the home lead to 3 - 2. After an industrious effort down the middle, Dieter Laue could have closed the game off after 83 minutes, but his finishing shot hit the post. Truenos's Joan Barral was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 84 minutes. The forty-five minutes were dominated by Truenos, with an impressive 51 percent possession of the ball.
The most dominating Truenos player was without a doubt Francisco Villalcázar. However,Paco Romero made a disastrous appearance. socceroos's best player was Kees Dekkers.José Ezpeleta was a disappointment, however. The match ends 3 - 2.
