Clear skies welcomed the 10807 spectators who had made their way to Raspeig Arena. Raspeig had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. Lineup: Rinner - Gianetto, Cervantes, Sieden, Půček - Evtifeev, Vito, De Maertelaere, Pudil - Gvozdas, Menna.

socceroos started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Alcazaba - Pompei, Jones, Ezpeleta - Dekkers, Gazitúa, Moreau, Sudić, Fois - Pfaffenzeller, Meurant.

Pressing was the tactic of the day for socceroos. At 2 minutes played, Miloslav Pudil came in from the right with the intention of giving Raspeig the lead, but his rocket of a shot rattled the crossbar. A well placed corner kick from Gerdas Gvozdas was followed byMiloslav Pudil's hard but accurate header. The nice combination marked a goal for Raspeig, the score now 1-0. Martin Půček of Raspeig received a yellow card after 23 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. After 24 minutes, the visitors tied it up at 1 - 1 when a fantastic pass from the left was finished off by Nemesio Gazitúa. Some things can only be learned through experience, and Ralph Sieden should take his lesson to heart after nearly giving socceroos a goal with 28 minutes of the match played. At this time in the match, socceroos were using their skill at pressing to successfully put pressure on their opponents. After a fine move down the middle Hernán Vito nearly gave the home side a goal after 37 minutes. The finishing shot went just wide, though. With 39 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. Rijad Sudić put the ball away for 1 - 2. The referee showed socceroos's Kees Dekkers the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. socceroos pressed their opponents, causing the game to be a bit of a stalemate at times. With 42 minutes played, Raspeig's Emiliano Gianetto fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Emiliano Gianetto for diving. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. This half belonged to Raspeig, who controlled the ball 53 percent of the time.

The pressing tactics used by socceroos were successful at containing their opponents. With 68 minutes played, a phenomenal play on the left side freed Jeff Meurant, of socceroos, to dash through and score another goal for the visitors. The score was then 1 - 3. The socceroos players could smell victory in the air. Jeff Meurant wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for Kalle-Matti Kotinurmi after 69 minutes. socceroos's Nicolas Moreau wanted to play on, but 74 minutes into the game the decision was made to substitute him for Giuliano Bianchi. Raspeig needed a fresh pair of legs on the field, and after 75 minutes Martin Půček made way for Lucas Sáenz Rivas. Raspeig enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 57 percent of possession.

Most important Raspeig player was Janne Menna. Jan Christopher Rinner was a disappointment, however. Kalle-Matti Kotinurmi performed admirably for socceroos. Kees Dekkers on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 3.
