A brilliantly sunny day had enticed a crowd of 11318 to Frente Azul. Manchego started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Al-Mahmoud - Keller, Bidaut, Joala - Valderramal, Presedo, García Arrafán, Pilar, Lecegui - Trillo-Figueroa, Ibares.

A 3-5-2 alignment was the formation of choice for socceroos. They fielded: Alcazaba - Corneanu, Pompei, Ezpeleta - Bianchi, Moreau, Olofsson, Delgado, Sánchez Saviñón - Pfaffenzeller, Marcu.

The strategy for socceroos on this day was to use their ability to press. The visitors' central defence should have had no trouble clearing the pass to Ramón Ibares, but the Manchego player managed to shrug them off and fired a low shot past the keeper to give his team the lead. 1 - 0! socceroos's Dorel Corneanu left the field after 21 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was Albert Marín Valle. At this time in the match, socceroos was using their skill at pressing to successfully put pressure on their opponents. 25 minutes in, Manchego appeared unsure on how to play and their organization was onlyinadequate. 25 minutes into the match, the visitors' central line of defence had to look on as Oscar Trillo-Figueroa dashed through, knocking home 2 - 0 for Manchego. Ignacio Delgado was the first to reach the corner kick, but his header was blocked by the keeper. However, socceroos's Artur Pfaffenzeller managed to get hold of the rebound and scored the 2-1 goal. Manchego solidified their lead at the 27 minute mark, as Ramón Ibaresmanoeuvered the ball through the opposing central defence and finished for 3 - 1. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed socceroos's José Ezpeleta a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 37 minutes into the game. The player down was Oscar Trillo-Figueroa. The Manchego bench looked worried for a while, but in the end he managed to get up. 40 minutes into the game, Manchego had difficulty finding their positions and their organization dropped to wretched. Manchego solidified their lead at the 41 minute mark, as Nicolas Bidaut manoeuvered the ball through the opposing central defence and finished for 4 - 1. 42 minutes in, socceroos's Giuliano Bianchi received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. It was 4 - 1 at the break. The forty-five minutes were dominated by socceroos, with an impressive 54 percent possession of the ball.

Manchego's coach had an extra briefing during the break, and after that his players hadinadequate organization. Nicolas Moreau received some harsh words from his coach after he acted foolishly 56 minutes into the match, probably out of lack of experience, and almost let an opponent score. When Giuliano Bianchi made yet another studs-first tackle after 65 minutes, the referee was obliged to book the socceroos player for the second time, sending him off the pitch. A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in Manchego's Oscar Trillo-Figueroa putting the lead up to 5 - 1. After this, Manchego lowered the tempo in order to concentrate on their defensive efforts. Humberto Oreste Pompeireally should have scored when he was chosen by fate to confront a wide open goal following a great play by Nicolas Moreau after a corner. Manchego managed to extend their lead to 6 - 1 when Roberto Valderramal cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. socceroos's Artur Pfaffenzeller was shown a yellow card for standing over the ball and blocking an opponent's quick free kick after 75 minutes. socceroos's ability to press their opponents all over the field paid off frequently. socceroos's Nicolas Moreau got himself booked for a foul. Manchego held the ball, with a clear 57 percent of possession.

Manchego's top performer was clearly Gabino Presedo. Alejandro Lecegui turned in a dismal performance, however. Artur Pfaffenzeller performed admirably for socceroos. However, Albert Marín Valle made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 6 - 1.
