The weather was pretty good, and a crowd of 11324 had shown up at Nueva Camisera for the match.

After 16 minutes, Agripino Caranza sent the corner kick right to Jonas Olofsson who headed it sharply past the keeper. 0-1! The home crowd was not impressed when Jonas Olofsson came in from the right, shooting hard to score in the 19:th minute. socceroos were now up 0 - 2. Pablo Vázquez Chavarri did everything he could to get one back for his Atlético, but keeper Saúl Alcazaba denied him with a spectacular block. After 37 minutes Jolyon Witte made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to Casper Van Roosbroeck who shuffled it past the keeper. The score was now 1 - 2. 1 - 2 was the score after the first half. Atlético claimed to be the more dominant force in the game, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 65 percent.

60 minutes into the game, Igor Buzykin came close to levelling the score with a dangerous shot from the centre of the area that went just over the bar. Many in the crowd felt the referee was being too lenient when he only showed Atlético's Jolyon Witte a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind in the 72:th minute.
The forty-five minutes were dominated by Atlético, with an impressive 62 percent possession of the ball.

Most important Atlético player was Igor Buzykin. Casper Van Roosbroeck on the other hand, had a terrible day. socceroos's top performer was clearly Fredrik Irlius. Saúl Alcazaba was a disappointment, however. The match ends 1 - 2.
