For their match strategy, Guty had decided to use their ability to counter-attack whenever possible.

A magnificent combination in the middle resulted in socceroos's Nemesio Gazitúaputting the lead up to 2 - 0. socceroos put themselves up 3 - 0 when Jeff Meurant broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive box behind him. At this point in the game, defending their lead became the main priority for socceroos. A scuffle developed as players from both sides clashed following a tussle in the centre of the field 33 minutes into the match. After regaining order and consulting his linesman, the referee called socceroos'sGiuliano Bianchi to one side and produced a red card for the player. Guty's Tomás Matute Llera refused to leave the field after injuring his achilles tendon after 34 minutes. Cheers filled the stadium as Tommaso Fois broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the 4 - 0 goal for socceroos. Artur Pfaffenzeller unleashed a swerving effort from the right that the visitors' keeper did well to tip wide. Halftime score was 4 - 0. socceroos claimed to be the more dominant force in the game, and the statistics agreed with them - possession being 58 percent.
Nemesio Gazitúa didn't pace himself at all, and after a series of daring offensive runs he was too tired to help out in the defensive play. Things were going to get worse for the visitors. Humberto Oreste Pompei squirmed himself through their central defence after 56 minutes, bringing the lead to 5 - 0. The sunny day didn't make things easy for Kees Dekkers who didn't seem his usual powerful self on the pitch. With 58 minutes played, Jeff Meurant could have brought this one home for socceroos as he charged up on the left, but his hooked ball went just a bit too high. Guty had a great opportunity to score following a counterattack after 59 minutes, but Andu Urrizola's shot from the left sailed high over the bar. A peculiar volley from Joan Francesc Comas almost resulted in a goal, but Iván Loinazwasn't able to exploit the well-timed pass. socceroos's Albert Marín Valle wanted to play on, but 70 minutes into the game the decision was made to substitute him for José Ezpeleta.Jeff Meurant increased socceroos's lead to 6 - 0, putting a header away on a hooked ball from the right. That made three goals for Jeff Meurant and he was marked down for the hat trick. The coach of socceroos was happy with the game so far, but still wanted to change the line up. After 75 minutes, Kalle-Matti Kotinurmi came on for Jeff Meurant. As Tommaso Fois was substituted 75 minutes into the game, he could take comfort in the fact that his team was in the lead. Nicolas Moreau was the replacement. socceroos held the ball, with a clear 60 percent of possession.
The most dominating socceroos player was without a doubt Artur Pfaffenzeller. However,José Ezpeleta made a disastrous appearance. Juan Francisco Vesga performed admirably for Guty. Federico Olmedo Puig turned in a dismal performance, however. The match ends 6 - 0.
